Putting our house in order

The hardest step in tackling a dreaded task is taking the first step. But once you get started it gives you this sense of accomplishment turning the dreaded task into an exciting project.

I am {Simply} Grateful for my Labor Day Weekend Nesting

Cleaning and organizing a closet is so much like cleaning and organizing the mind.

A de-cluttered closet enables us to see our clothes and accessories more clearly making it easier to find needed things and more fun preparing/getting ready whenever we need to.

A clean and organized mind allows for clearer thoughts making it easier to 'find' whatever it is we need to understand.

I may be a ways to an organized home but I am simply grateful for the progress I am making in clearing my soul.

De-cluttering the soul of worries and anxieties allows for a quiet heart making it easier to 'find' the peace and joy amidst the clutter in a not so clean world.

This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order. - Isaiah 38:1

        • for the beautiful Chumash Park just down the road from our house. The kids have been enjoying playing with each other at the park on a regular basis.

        • for Phil who picked up Isabella from her acting class so I could attend my favourite body jam class (despite the abrupt notice)

        • for Ian's positive disposition reflected in his wonderful 3rd quarter grades.

        • for the wonderful habit of reading a devotional with Isabella before bed and then praying afterwards.

          I prayed out loud with heartfelt gratitude as I feel the deep love that abound among my wonderful children: "Thank you dear Lord for blessing me with the best children."

          Isabella (almost half asleep): "Do you know what God is telling you right now mommy?"

          Me: "What?"

          Isabella: "He said he gave you the best kids because you're the best mommy."

        • ....for moments that take our breath away.

        • so very grateful that I was able to drive Ian to school before the van overheated again (it was so scary as the van was smoking all over the place as I was climbing the hill to our house; I jumped out of the van as soon as I reached the house; then I was able to refill the radiator fluid as it was empty again after the boys filled it up last night;

        • so very grateful that I got to drive Isabella to school before I had to call AAA to tow the van to the shop;

        • so very grateful that Phil got done with his finals for the day just in time to give me a ride.

        ....for a fun family time at the beach (Pumpkins on the Pier)

        ....for the soothing loveliness of our blooming rose garden

        God hath not promised
        Skies ever blue,
        Flower strewn pathways
        All our lives through;
        God hath not promised
        Sun without rain,
        joy without sorrow,
        Peace without pain.

        But God hath promised
        Strength for the day,
        Rest for the labor,
        Light for the way,
        Grace for the trials,
        Help from above,
        Unfailing sympathy,
        Undying love.
        -Annie Johnson Flint

        My prayer:

        Dear God,
        Right now these flowers are in bloom
        Soon they will wither and fall but they will bloom again
        As I delight in the constant renewal of life
        may it serve as a silent reminder of your promise
        not of flower strewn pathways all our lives through
        but of your constant presence and undying love
        and help me remember that though we plant and water,
        it is you who provides the life and growth.
